New gTLD Domains

Originally there were five general purpose domains consisting of .com, .edu, .gov, .mil, .org. When these five domain extensions were implemented the .net domain was added with them.

The domain extensions .com, .net, and .org, can now be used for any purpose despite their original specific goals.

Finding a relevant, available .com domain name can be difficult. gTLDs are top-level domains extensions that can fill the gap.

ICANN has approved a large number of new domain extensions that has increased domain name availability for new business opportunities in online marketing.
